Minnesota Children's Museum
Location: St. Paul, Minnesota
Size: 27,000 Square Feet Indoor, 8,000 Square Feet Outdoor
Scope: Visitor Experience Planning and Exhibit Design
Gyroscope was hired as master planners and exhibit designers for the major renovation of the Minnesota Children’s Museum. The grand re-opening in June 2017, revealed 10 new galleries that prioritize the power of play and promote open-ended, child-led creativity. The experiences range from a larger than life car wash (Forces at Play) to a 4-story vertical adventure (The Scramble) with climbing towers, a giant spiral slide and a netted catwalk suspended more than 40-feet above the ground!
Working closely with the Museum’s staff, we developed the galleries under the conceptual framework of Creative Commons. A concept to embrace flexibility and nimbleness as an organization, alongside the creativity of visitors, staff and leadership on an on-going basis. The result is a vibrant museum that is routed in Minnesota, but also gives children the time, space and freedom to naturally develop 21st century skills.
