Sustainability & Innovation
Gyroscope's interest in sustainable design dates back to the early years of the firm when we were commissioned by the California Energy Commission to design an information center for architects about sustainable building techniques. We continue to incorporate cutting edge sustainable design strategies into all of our architectural and exhibit design projects.
LEED® Accredited Professionals
Two of Gyroscope's designers are LEED® Accredited Professionals, including president Maeryta Medrano and principal Ron Davis. Accreditation by the U.S. Green Building Council certifies that we have "demonstrated the knowledge of green building practice required for successful implementation of the LEED® green rating system."
For all of our projects, we incorporate a wide variety of materials, such as products with 100% post consumer waste, reused building components, local materials, and low or no VOC. We specify these products and others that have a low or no impact on the environment when evaluated cradle-to-cradle. In our own office re-location and re-model, we diverted waste from the landfill by donating supplies and equipment to our local children's museum, re-used materials in our new build-out, increased our daylighting and views through careful site selection, and located our new office near public transportation.
